Prom

Prom! The formal, black tie gathering has become a major culture for secondary school students and one I’m sure sends young girls into frenzies of sheer panic. Is the dress right? Does my hair ‘go’ Fake tan? Spray tan? False nails? Aaaggghhh!!

I’m sure ‘Prom’ has become more popular over the years following the influence of US TV shoes such as, My super sweet sixteen and has young girls rushing out to buy their perfect prom dress!

It has been said that Prom is the most important event in a young ladies life. Many would argue their wedding should be, but the truth is, you only get to do prom once! I think my daughter and many other young girls have been planning for this moment from the moment they hit secondary school!

Recently, I was swelling with pride and  could not wait to see my daughter, Ellie and her prom date, Josh dressed to the nines in their chosen attire at around 6.30pm that evening. My daughter had spent months trawling through ideas for her chosen gown, deciding on colours and how she should wear her hair once the design was finalized.

The final design choice was made using a silver sequin on mesh fabric over a grey, crinkle taffeta and silver grey tulle. Crystal embellishments finished the neckline and an abundance of net petticoat held the skirt in place. Nude-pink suede and diamante shoes from Dune along with a beautiful jewelled comb from HF Couture completed the look.

Josh hired his black suit, but has a bespoke bow tie and cummerbund in soft grey silk dupion. I actually walked in to the room the night before to find him sat on the floor wearing a face mask. Yes, both him and Ellie were already prepping for the big event!
